Paleo Challenge: Day 20

Here we are…20 days in and 10 to go. Your name could follow this…

How is everyone? I’m assuming you’re all keeping track of points in your heads and going to hit me with some huge numbers, right? :-)

I have been reading the Paleo Diet book, finally and LOVE it. If you haven’t read it, beg borrow or steal and get it. The information about how food works together is worth the time to read it, alone. I learned so much.  I like how he believes that people need to be REAL, enjoy life…he says to have an OPEN meal (love that term), have a glass of wine. While I am if-y on theory of this is exactly what primal people ate, I like the science of it…the vitamins, minerals and nutrients. If  you doubt, why not try it out. It actually isn’t that hard. Any diet that has tons of nuts and fruit can’t be all bad, right?

As far as my progress, I’m a little sad that I relaxed my eating SO much on the camping trip. It has been hard to get 100% back on track and that on top of PMS stuff…well, I’ve been less than 100%, but this week I  plan to tear it up! Watch out!

I made this hummus last night and it is SO yummy! I even had some on my eggs this morning, and on my chicken at lunch.  Try it out.  See what you think!

I hope everyone else is kicking butt and congrats to all who are picking up PR’s at the gym right and left! I know Jaala killed the back squat last week!

The hummus was very good – it was successful with a pretty big group of non-paleo-ers as well, so it’s not just “good” on the diet food scale, in case you’re worried about that. :-)

That hummus looks really good. I have a ton of zucchini from my CSA that I’m having trouble eating. Thanks for sharing that recipe.

I am through with Day 14 (6 days behind y’all) and my point total thus far is:
    90
Salad dressing at a wedding shower…How come salad dressing has been my downfall?

    I am loving Paleo.
I have missed 8 points thus far; 6 for salad dressing and 2 for a chai latte.
And thanks for the shout out about my PR Martha!

Did I mention I think my vision is even improving? Going to the eye doctor tomorrow to test out that theory…

Hi MB, I took a complete (almost, a 2-pointer) cheat day for my brother’s birthday and finally broke the food rules. The food tasted fine, but it wasnt like some glorious experience: it was just another way to eat that left me gassy all night (lame). Anyway, I havent posted for a while but my total is 107.

monday had a mothership beer with my meat and salad : Yum. 6 points for me today.

This is the week I’m going to be away and it should be relatively ‘easy’ to remain paleo.
Not sure how much computer access I’ll have so i’ll keep track and post when I get back Sat if not before.

    Have a great week. Enjoy.
    xo…

Brain fart yesterday: I thought that miso wasn’t made from grains. I don’t know why I thought that or what I thought it was made from, since I am normally good with this sort of thing. I’m at 120 since the last update.
Jaala, according to wikipedia balsamic is made from grapes, and most other vinegars are just what they say they are (like malt would be barley, rice would be rice, etc.). I think the paleo-debate stems more from what was available 10,000 years ago and I bet distillation equipment was hard to come by then, making vinegar processed and, hence, anti-paleo. MB made the “pickles are paleo” decision early in the game (when you were scarfing pizza in front of Eric), and we all took that to mean vinegar (or rather certain types) were copacetic. Thoughts?

Aw yes, I get it Brandon. I don’t remember the scarfing pizza part, but I am sure I did it :) . Thanks for the tip on apple cider vinegar, I used it on my salad today and loved it!

Done with day 17, new total:
    111
