RE:  My last post- In order to protect relationships of people who read my blog I wont go into details. It has to do with trainers and people asking for advice about trainers. There are so many and it can be confusing. There is not one who is the best, but there are some lacking in a lot of ways. It’s a very personal decision and what is best for me, probably won’t be best for you. It is dangerous territory to compare advice of trainers. Some seem to be very territorial and suspicious of other trainers in my experience. Go with one who doesn’t have a chip on their shoulder and isn’t using mind games to get/keep your business.

Enough on that. Let’s move on. :-)

9 Days of school. Almost time to clelebrate!

Don’t ask

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

For advice unless you REALLY want to hear the truth. How rude to get mad at the advice. You ASKED! And for pete’s sake, don’t pull everyone in with you. Geez.

Sorry. Ominous vent. I had to get it out.

Still Learning

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I noticed that a lot of the stuff I have been reading about Cross Fit (sorry, I’m a bit obsessed right now) mentions the Zone Diet. It seems the diet plan of choice for serious Cross Fitt-ers. So, I’m not one to just sit back and say “ok”. I have to check it out! This morning, instead of cleaning my house, I read up on the Zone Diet. It really is the basic information I already knew with some tweaks. Dr. Sears believes a little less protein than GOOD carbs. If you’re plan is to build muscle I would think keeping the protein carb balance is important, but I do like the fact that he supports eating a lot of fruit. This is to replace refined sugar. No breads really. Just an occasional WW pita. I think there is a ZONE pasta. I like the idea of it. My plan is to basically keep doing what I have been. Add in more fruits and eliminate processed sugar. I know that is the main enemy for me. If I can satisfy my bread urges by allowing it every few days in the form of a WW pita or bagel, I think it will better help me to steer clear of the butter soaked french bread. MMMM Butter. I am really loving learning more about nutrition and applying it to real life. It is very freeing to be off the competition diet and trying to live everyday life in a healthy and smart manner. (Don’t read “I’m not competing again”).

If you have some time check out the zone diet website…one cool thing I found was this page that shares some findings about a few restaurants and gives good choices (if there are any) to order. Check it out.

Keep Moving

I’m always doing something. I can’t sit still. When I have to sit still, my brain is turning. I have so many things I want to do or am trying to do, sometimes I make myself crazy. I feel like I have to get stuff done before I run out of time. I mean, what if the world ended tomorrow? I still have things… I know it sounds crazy, but I just feel like my life is so full, but I want to add to it. Selfish? They aren’t really “things” in the sense of having a boat and a pool and, and, and. It’s just ways to stretch myself, to see what I can do. Now I’ve got it swirling in my head that I could open a Cross Fit style gym. I mean not soon, but someday. How cool would that be? Am I sure that I’m gonna do it? No, but it sure is fun to imagine “what if”? I am going for the Level 1 certification in July and then in the fall I will get the kids Cert. I know this is going to be so beneficial to my job, my love for health and fitness and desire to inspire others.

If you have yet to try a Cross Fit workout, try one. I look at them and say “that’s it?” HA! Today was 3 rounds of 800m run and 50 pullups, for time. Of course I have to scale down a lot of it because I’m just a beginner. Here’s what I did:

3X 800m and 15 jumping pullups in about 40 minutes (my stopwatch got messed up).

So, I didn’t run ALL OUT, I stayed at about 5mph and did jumping pull-ups. If you think those are easy, try them. 45 of them. My lats are already sore and I’ve been shaking ever since I finished.

If you need a challenge, here it is. Try one of their workouts, just once a week. At least it’s a fun change. I was doing one at the gym the other day and everyone decided it confirmed that I am crazy. Well, DUH. I knew that way back in ‘81 when I played thether-rock by myself out on our farm in Arkansas. LMAO I’m not kidding. TETHER.ROCK. I might tell you about it, but you’ll just have to paint your own mental image for now.

Hubby and I are off to a big date of Bobbi’s Mexican food and Costco. Woo aren’t we the party animals. We take what we get.

I leave you with this, think you can’t do pull-ups? Think again. Watch this video

I Heart…

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Gosh, so many things right now!

1. Feeling like a normal human, eating normal food and doing normal amounts of working out.

2. Arbonne. I have been a consultant for 2 years and never done anything but buy my own stuff. I am so excited about the new Spa Treatment and Detox products that I am going to build my business!

3. Cross Fit. I have read here and there about people doing this but never checked it out. OMG. I love it! I have done a couple of workouts and they are challenging and fast. One other thing that is cool is that they have a whole curriculum for kids. So my plan is to get certified and then next year I will be teaching PE, so I’m going to implement it.

4. There are only 18 days of school left! Ahhh Summer!

The only thing I don’t love right now is the number I saw on the scale this morning. It really isn’t the number that bothers me so much as how fast I got here. I won’t lie. This week has been a serious eating frenzy. I will partially blame dieting, but I think it is mostly PMS.

I am really enjoying being able (trying) to make healthy choices without the parameters of a specific meal plan. I mean I have one, but I think it is time to learn how to eat without being babysat by a paper. I have spent two years on BFL or with a trainer telling me what I need. I feel it is time  for me to step up and try to do it on my own. This week has not been a good example, but I went shopping and am prepared for the week. We’ll see how it goes. I do know where my weakness lies…Bread and alcohol. Mind you, I’m not a drunk, but I have had a drink with dinner 3 nights in a row, just ‘cuz I can. Not smart. Need to curb that a bit.

My dad always used to say to my mom “A loaf of bread, a bottle of wine and thee- is all I need.” I can blame him for my saggy butt. LOL

Alrighty, gotta hit the showers!

Have a great week!

Southern California 2008 - 2nd Place Short Class

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Saturday I  competed in the Southern California Bodybuilding Championships. As if you probably didn’t already know that. I had an absolute blast. This organization is the bomb. I loved how friendly everyone was and the super competitiveness was not there. It ended up being a very small show which was cool. At first they put all 7 girls in one group, then later changed it to Short and Tall. There were 2 in tall and 5 in short. This was AFTER pre-judging and I really thought at that point I was 2nd.  After it changed I felt like I had moved into first. When they were calling out the placings they called third and hadn’t called me, I was certain…then “2nd Place…Martha Bangs”! What???? I mean I’m not disappointed. My goal was top three going in and I did that. I was just shocked. Check out the blonde on the far left next to me. She won. I guess you never can tell what they are looking for. She was definitely soft.  She told me she was 133 and 18% bodyfat. What? I’m that in an everyday lifstyle? So, anyhoo…my main point is I had a GREAT experience. These people really know how to make you want to do it again.

So, I’ve eaten way too much crap to admit to right now and feel darn good. I know I’m gonna do it again, just don’t know when. I am much more confident about doing fitness in this organization. There was only one fitness girl and I could totally do what she did. she was good, but not unattainable.

I’m totally  pooped and gotta go back to work tomorrow. Ready to finish the school year with a bang!
